Rare, Antique, French Good Luck pendant, 18K

€2,772.00Price

This is a magnificent French Art Noveau Pendant with all the Good Luck symbols you can imagine. It is most likely a one-of-a-kind custom-made for a special client back in France during the Art Noveau era. Ready to be your companion for the next decade.

It is a typical example of Art Noveau design which flourished in Paris from c. 1885 to 1914 as an Indulgence for the Senses with its organic shapes, attention to detail and excellent craftsmanship.

To the center we have the Goddess of Luck; Fortuna standing on the winged wheel of Fortune, blindfolded to symbolize her impartiality and carrying a cornucopia; the Horn of Plenty. To her side, we have the numbers 1 and 3 for the number 13 considered lucky all the way back from the ancient Egyptians and a highly used symbol of good luck and fortune in France before World War I.

To the back, we have a clover in beautiful green enamel in a bezel of yellow gold. All is framed in a detailed wreath that, in ancient times, was believed to have magical powers and was often used to protect homes and ward off evil spirits. And look at that bail, I mean... I'm speechless!

Full French hallmarks, and an engraved number, to the top of the back and the French Eagle once more to the bail.
