Rare, Original French Augis Love charm Ring, 18K
This is one of the first Love medal rings made by Augis, circa 1920. Not only the design but this exact ring! It has an oval shape, a laurel border, and split shoulders. Low profile and super comfy. Stamped with the French Eagle at the back of the shank and stamped to the backside of the oval with a very faded “Depose” and “AAugis”.
About the motive:
The plus and the minus sign references the famous French poem "Eternal Song" by Rosemonde Gérard. The plus sign, set with tiny diamonds, symbolizes the line: “more (than yesterday), and the minus sign, set with rubies, symbolizes the line: “less (than tomorrow)”.
“For, you see,
each day I love you more,
today more than yesterday
and less than tomorrow.”
This beautiful passage, written by Rosemonde Gerard in 1889, is from the poem she wrote for her husband celebrating their love. The French Jeweler Alphonse Augis immortalized the poem by putting it into his "Medallion of Love" design in 1907 which he continued to elaborate on during the century. And this is a tiny version of his famous medal!
