Square Augis Love Ring, 18K
A sleek square Augis Love ring facing 15x15mm! It's a different design than most Augis rings I've seen. The back of the shank is stamped with the French hallmarks, and the front is signed with “AAugis.”
About the motive:
The plus and the minus sign references the famous French poem "Eternal Song" by Rosemonde Gérard. The plus sign, set with tiny diamonds, symbolizes the line: “more (than yesterday), and the minus sign, set with rubies, symbolizes the line: “less (than tomorrow)”.
“For, you see, each day
I love you more,
today more than yesterday
and less than tomorrow.”
This beautiful passage, written by Rosemonde Gerard in 1889, is from the poem she wrote for her husband celebrating their love. The French Jeweler Alphonse Augis immortalized the poem by putting it into his "Medallion of Love" design in 1907 which he continued to elaborate on during the century.
