Swedish Minimalist, 1960s pendant with long chain

A 1960s square, sculptural pendant by Bengt Hallberg, Sweden. Clear rock crystal set almost weightlessly inside a solid silver frame, held in place but still exposed from every angle. Light moves through it rather than bouncing off it.

The lines are strict, almost architectural. No decoration, no softening, just form, balance, and a quiet kind of confidence. The bail follows the same idea. Oversized, squared, and deliberate. Nothing about this is accidental.

This kind of jewelry came out of a time where design was about stripping things back. Less decoration, more intention. Silver was used for its honesty, and stones like rock crystal for their clarity,  but also for how they interact with light. Instead of sparkle, the focus was on how light moves through the stone, shifts, softens, and changes as you wear it.

It’s subtle, but very deliberate.

Modernist jewelry, at its core, is about removing anything unnecessary. No ornament for the sake of it, no hidden tricks. Just form, structure, and material doing exactly what they’re meant to do. It’s closer to architecture than traditional jewelry - built, not decorated.
