Super old diamond ring, 14K
Dreamy little treasure from around the 1860s, with lots of wonderful patina. Most likely Austrian, with all the quiet charm that only true antique diamonds carry. The center stone is an early kind of rose cut, the sort that was shaped by hand, with a flat back, a broad table, and just enough facets to give it that soft, candlelit glow we love! It faces up like a full 1.00 ct, even though its weight is closer to ~0.75 ct, which is typical for rosecuts.
The diamond measures approx: 7.1 x 6.6 mm x 1.6 mm.
Look closely and you’ll see feathers and a handful of little carbon freckles inside, the kind of internal poetry that lets you know this diamond is from the old world. One of the miniature shoulder stones is missing, but the scalloped collet and slender period band make up for it with plenty of character. A later stamp 585 for 14K inside the shank.
Can be sized by my master jeweler. See more under resizing.
