The Chubby Victorian. A Solid 18K Gold Band, English, c. 1850
Some rings whisper. This one has been keeping secrets for 175 years, (or maybe "just" 100 years)?
Meet the Chubby Victorian. A wonderfully substantial, softly domed 18K gold wedding band with that satisfying weight that lets you know that this is serious. Not fussy, not delicate. Just pure, honest gold, gently kissed by time but still glowing beautifully.
Hallmarked in Birmingham with a full set of English antique marks, the anchor for Birmingham, the crown AND 18 for gold standard, and a date letter firmly placing this ring in 1850. The maker's mark reads C. G & S, supposedly a Birmingham partnership whose registration could however suggest a makers date in 1926, leaving this little band with a delicious identity mystery that even the experts enjoy. Besides that, English hallmarks are beyond beautiful!
Someone, long ago, chose this as their wedding band. They didn't wear it much, and now here it is, ready for its next chapter.
