Big antique Garnet drop, 15K

€1,380.00Price

A glowing drop of deep garnet, rich with Victorian character.

-

This substantial Victorian pendant showcases a beautifully hand-cut pear-shaped cabochon garnet whose deep, dark wine-red body colour appears almost black until the light reveals glowing crimson flashes within.

-

Rather than being perfectly symmetrical, the garnet has the softly irregular shape typical of early hand-cut stones, giving it the character and individuality collectors love. Its shape and cutting style suggest it may even predate the Victorian mounting.

-

• Victorian, circa 1880–1900

• Large pear-shaped natural cabochon garnet

• Gold tests higher than 14K and lower than 18K (seller claim it as 15K)

• Pendant measures 20 mm without the bail, 29mm included

• 11.80 grams

• Beautiful deep wine-red garnet with exceptional depth of colour

• A couple of nicks to the front edge (see video)

• One nick to the back edge, hidden within the setting and likely present before the stone was mounted

• Slight movement in the setting, but the stone remains secure

• Very good antique condition

-

A beautifully weighty Victorian pendant with all the charm of a handmade jewel. The slightly asymmetrical cabochon and visible traces of hand craftsmanship give it a character that simply can't be replicated today. Besides that, I’ve never seen a Garnet drop this big!
