An Edwardian Sapphire and Diamond Ribbon Pendant
Perhaps it once adorned the chest of a silk evening gown, catching the candlelight as its wearer moved beneath the chandeliers. This lovely Edwardian ribbon has all the romance of an evening spent somewhere splendid.
A flowing ribbon of silver with 18K on the reverse curls around a beautiful cornflower-blue sapphire, with old-cut diamonds following its graceful lines. The diamonds have their own little quirks, including a few chips, but together they create a wonderfully muted sparkle around that lovely blue centre.
The back reveals the 18K gold, along with an 18K hook that may once have attached the jewel to a pocket watch. Today, the hook serves as the bail, giving the ribbon a new life as a pendant.
A romantic little treasure from the Edwardian era. The Sapphires 18K prongs are just restored by my jeweler so it’s ready to accompany someone on many more evenings worth remembering.
