Antique Fleur de Lys pendant, 18K. France c. 1890

Graceful and full of symbolism. This fleur-de-lis piece carries the elegant lines of the classic heraldic lily, a motif long associated with light, nobility and French heritage.

The flowing curves and pointed centre give it a refined decorative look that sits somewhere between late 19th and early 20th century jewellery design.

Small early rose and single-cut diamonds are set along the centre and the curled arms, adding a gentle antique sparkle against the warm gold. The back reveals a particularly pretty pierced gallery, with delicate openwork behind the stones that allows light to pass through while showing the careful hand fabrication of the piece.

The brooch fittings are no longer present. The open bail appears original and suggests the piece may once have been used to suspend a small watch, fob or similar accessory.

There are minor bumps, dents and a few older repairs from a long life, but the piece still carries its antique charm beautifully.
